A hotel in northeast Denver is a step closer to becoming housing for people struggling with homelessness. A key House Appropriations subcommittee approved a huge bill on Monday that includes the funding.

Rep. Diane DeGette, a Democrat who represents Colorado's 1st Congressional District, requested $2 million in federal funding for the City of Denver to purchase and renovate the now-vacant Stay Inn Hotel and convert it into housing for the homeless. The hotel is located at 12033 East 38th Avenue, near Peoria Street and Smith Road.

A congressional subcommittee on Monday approved nearly $6.5 million for a trio of projects intended to create affordable housing in Denver and a shelter for children who are homeless.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives voted today to approve a massive infrastructure bill that includes, among other things, nearly $20 million for three critical transportation projects in the downtown Denver area.

The legislation - known as the INVEST in America Act – will provide the Colorado Department of Transportation, Denver Department of Transportation, and Denver's Regional Transportation District a combined $20 million to help realign I-25, make necessary improvements to Denver's light rail and revitalize the 16th Street Mall.
