"The recent turmoil in the financial markets further illustrates thefailure of the Republican's economic policies. Americans across thenation – and throughout Colorado – are feeling the strain of risinghealth care costs, record energy and gas prices, and the fallout fromthe mortgage crisis.

WASHINGTON – Energy and Commerce Committee Vice Chair Diana DeGette(D-CO), chief architect of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act,today offered the following comments on the recent findings thatembryonic stem cells are still necessary by a U.S. National Academy ofSciences panel:

"Embryonic stem cell research holds much promise to unlocking the curesfor many diseases. I could not agree more with the recent findings ofthe Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research Advisory Committee that the useof embryonic stem cells is still necessary.

Lack of a Food Traceability System Results in More Consumers Sick and Still FDA Cannot Determine Source of Contamination

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Vice Chair of theCommittee on Energy and Commerce, today reacted to the ongoingsalmonella outbreak and the continued lack of identification of thesource of the contamination. The outbreak in salmonella first indicatedtomatoes were the source, but now the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) indicates that peppers are also likely.
