DENVER (CBS4) – A Congressional panel will hold a hearing Thursday to look into the emissions cheating scandal by Volkswagen, and the owner of a Denver VW dealership will be among those testifying.

Fred Emich says the vehicles in question represent 25 percent of his business.

"It's obviously very impactful on our business and something we had no indication of or control over," Emich said.

Emich says he was shocked when he received an email ordering a stop-sale on 100 of his new and used diesel cars.

There's a push to try to raise the legal age for buying cigarettes in the United States. Right now it's 18, but that could change to 21 if a Colorado congresswoman gets her way.

Supporters of raising the smoking age say it's all about protecting teens. Ninety percent of smokers have their first cigarette by age 18 when they're more vulnerable to addiction. While state lawmakers have tried and failed to raise the age limit, U.S. Rep Diana DeGette, D-Colorado, says there's growing support for the idea across the country.

Any football fan who has turned on the TV to catch their team's game, logged on to see the score or tuned in to hear sports commentary, is probably all too familiar with the commercials for daily fantasy leagues, touting the huge sums of money they've paid out. For daily fantasy companies like FanDuel.com and DraftKings.com, business couldn't be better; but their staggering growth has come at a cost. The Denver Post reported Sept. 25, that regulators are questioning the legal status of such games.

A local veteran finally received a long-overdue medal. He was supposed to receive the award more than 40 years ago but finally got it on Tuesday.

Rep. Diana DeGette presented the Soldier's Medal to Army Spc. Joseph Gilmore at VFW Post 1 in Denver. He was set to receive it in 1973 but he never got the medal because of a missing letter of recommendation.

Gilmore said he did not even think about the medal for years.

"Before the medal was awarded or due to be awarded I was shipped to Germany," Gilmore said. "So I kind of almost forgot about it."

A report released Friday by Congress' nonpartisan watchdog agency says federal officials do not have a firm grasp on the thousands of abandoned and potentially dangerous mines on its land.
