WASHINGTON — The House passed a bill on Friday that would provide five years of funds for the popular Children's Health Insurance Program, over vehement objections from Democrats who opposed the way it would be financed.

The vote, 242 to 174, came a month after funds for the program expired.

U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette on Monday called for a stop to the "hyperpartisan" politics she says are fueling the GOP health care bill that — along with President Donald Trump's proposed budget cuts — would slash money from programs that help more than half a million Colorado children.

U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette said Wednesday that the firing of FBI Director James Comey is the "latest shenanigan" by President Donald Trump's administration amid investigations into his 2016 campaign's ties to the Russian government.

"I think some Republicans are beginning to come to the realization that where there is smoke there is fire and we better get to the bottom of what's going on here," the Denver Democrat said after an event downtown.
