DeGette Turns to BuzzFeed to Make the Case for Vaccinations
U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (CO-01) published a BuzzFeed community post to encourage people to get vaccinated. Concern over low vaccination rates has grown in light of a measles outbreak that originated at Disneyland and has spread across the country. Several cases have been confirmed in Colorado.
"With measles spreading, Colorado and the country face an urgent public health problem, and we need to do everything possible to get the word out about vaccinations," said Rep. DeGette.
"As a mother of someone with a weakened immune system, I want to make sure we do everything possible to keep ourselves, our families, and our community safe and healthy."
The importance of vaccines was widely discussed at a House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing on seasonal influenza. Rep. DeGette serves as the ranking Democrat on the subcommittee. She also recorded a public service announcement for Denver-area broadcasters to use to help encourage Colorado residents to get vaccinated.
