Mr. Speaker, to say that this amendment is a wolf in sheep's clothing would be the understatement of a lifetime. The proponents say it simply extends the Hyde amendment – just a clarification of current law. Nothing could be further from the truth.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Vice Chair of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, today applauded the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) award to Colorado health care organizations by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Secretary Sebelius announced awards totaling $27.8 million – over $2 million in Colorado – to health center-controlled networks and large multi-site health centers to implement Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other health information technology (HIT) innovations.

WASHINGTON – As health insurance premiums continue to skyrocket, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Vice Chair of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, today joined her colleagues in the House of Representatives to introduce legislation eliminating a federal antitrust exemption for health insurance and medical malpractice insurance companies. The Health Insurance Industry Antitrust Enforcement Act would repeal the McCarran-Ferguson Act exemption from certain antitrust violations, including price fixing, bid rigging, and market allocations.
