Apply for an Internship

Please submit applications for summer internships by April 1st, 2023.

Congressional internships provide a unique opportunity for current students who are interested in the legislative process to work in Congresswoman DeGette's Washington, D.C or Denver office. Internships are available throughout the year to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates must be willing to commit to working at least two months for a minimum of 15 hours per week in the District Office or 20 hours per week in the D.C. office.

Interns are paid a monthly stipend based on the number of hours worked.

Federal law requires an individual receiving federally appropriated funds (including the internship stipend) to be:

  • A U.S. citizen;

  • A non-citizen U.S. national;

  • A lawful permanent resident in the process of naturalizing; or

  • A refugee or individual granted asylum who has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident.

Individuals who are seeking consideration under the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival” (DACA) policy are not currently eligible to receive this stipend.

  • In the 117th Congress, Congresswoman DeGette was a cosponsor of H.R.2029, the American Dream Employment Act, which would allow DACA recipients to be paid with federally appropriated monies, and therefore eligible for a paid internship in a Congressional office. This legislation has not yet been reintroduced in the 118th Congress.
