Toxic Substances Control Act Needs Reforming Now, Say DeGette and Green

May 18, 2016

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Congressman Gene Green (D-TX), leading members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, today issued the following statement on a new bipartisan, bicameral proposal to reform U.S. chemical safety efforts under the Toxic Substances Control Act:

“For many years, we have worked to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act to direct the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to protect Americans from harmful chemicals,” said DeGette and Green, the ranking members of the subcommittees on Oversight & Investigations and Health, respectively. “Right now, we are closer than ever before to making reform a reality. The proposal released yesterday is a clear improvement over current law and addresses the fundamental flaws of TSCA that expose the public to dangerous chemicals. It is long past time that Congress update this law, and we stand ready to work toward a final compromise that will have broad, bicameral support.”
