Pelosi appoints DeGette to serve as impeachment manager
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Speaker Pelosi has named U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) as one of the nine impeachment managers who will present the House's case in a Senate trial against President Donald J. Trump, if he is impeached for a second time.
DeGette, now in her thirteenth term in the House, is a graduate of New York University School of Law and spent 15 years trying cases as a civil rights lawyer before she was elected to Congress. DeGette served as Speaker Pro Tempore and presided over the House for the entire 11 hours of debate that led to Trump's impeachment in December 2019.
Following is a statement from DeGette on being named one of the nine managers who will now be responsible for trying Trump on one article of inciting an insurrection should the House move forward with its plans to impeach him tomorrow:
"I am honored that Speaker Pelosi has asked me to serve as an impeachment manager and help defend our Democracy during this critical moment in our nation's history. There is no doubt that through his actions in recent weeks, President Trump is now one of the single greatest threats to the safety and security of our nation. It's important, for the sake of our Democracy and the future health of our nation, that he be held fully responsible for his crimes. He should be removed from office immediately and I look forward to doing my part to ensure that happens as soon as possible."
