DeGette Continues to Oppose Iraq War As We Mark its Fifth Year

WASHINGTON – With today marking the fifth year of thewar in Iraq, Chief Deputy Whip Diana DeGette (D-CO) offered thefollowing statement:

"Over the course of five years, we have spent billionsof dollars, endured the loss of countless lives, and put our nationalsecurity at risk. The Bush Administration's War in Iraq has failed andCongress must not continue to support this misadventure.

"I opposed giving President Bush authorization to go towar in 2002, and I remain committed to ending this failed war andbringing our troops home quickly and safely. I will continue to opposeany measure that does not include withdrawal timelines and politicalbenchmarks to bring a responsible end to this irresponsible war."
