House passes DeGette led bill to improve maternal health outcomes

March 5, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 3838, the Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act. Rep. Diana DeGette, who co-led the bill with Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), released the following statement celebrating its passage:

“We are in the midst of a maternal health crisis, and the need for action has never been more urgent,” Rep. DeGette said. “80% of maternal deaths are preventable, and these deaths disproportionately impact women and families of color. That’s why I’m pleased to see the House pass this much-needed legislation, which is a crucial step forward in ensuring that every woman receives the care and support she deserves during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum."
