Health Ranking Member DeGette Statement on Republican Assault on Health Care
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) released the following statement after House Republicans unveiled their budget proposal that would gut Medicaid and make it harder for Americans to get the health care they deserve.
“House Republicans want to cut $880 billion from programs under Energy & Commerce jurisdiction—where are they going to find that money? I’ll tell you: they will gut Medicaid for over 1 million people in Colorado and millions of Americans so that they can give billionaires and big corporations $4.5 trillion in tax cuts.
“Their proposal would make it harder to get health care, force community health centers to lay off staff or close their doors, and make America less healthy. These misguided and dangerous efforts will come through the Health Subcommittee where I serve as the top Democrat. I won’t let them compromise the most vulnerable Americans’ health care so that they can increase the deficit and line the pockets of the wealthiest Americans.”
