DeGette statement on vote to send articles of impeachment to Senate
January 15, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following is a comment from U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), who presided over the House for today's debate, on the chamber's vote to appoint impeachment managers and formally submit two articles of impeachment against President Trump to the Senate for trial:
"None of us came to Congress to impeach a president, but President Trump's conduct left us no choice. By voting to formally submit these articles of impeachment to the Senate, we have fulfilled our constitutional duty to defend our democracy the best that we can. I hope our colleagues in the Senate will now do the same."
