DeGette statement on vote to hold Barr in contempt

May 8, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. Following is a comment from U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) on the House Judiciary Committee's vote today to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt, a move she supports and will vote for when it reaches the full House:

"The Attorney General of the United States is the people's lawyer. Yet, time and time again we have seen him mislead the very people he was appointed to represent. There is no excuse for such behavior. Today's vote should send a very clear and powerful message that no one is above the law, and that Congress will not allow the attorney general – or anyone else – to simply refuse to comply with our subpoenas or appear before our committees when called to testify."
