DeGette Statement on Universities Facing Title IX Sexual Violence Investigations

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (CO-01) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Education released a list of higher education institutions under investigation for possible violations of federal law over handling of sexual violence and harassment complaints:

"I would much rather be promoting one of the many exciting things happening around Denver than calling attention to its problems, but we cannot ignore sexual violence or sexual harassment occurring in our communities or on our school campuses. I find it disturbing that three Denver universities may have failed to properly address sexual violence and harassment, and if so, school leaders must stand up and take action. I am willing to help each of these schools work to address problems, but I will not hesitate to speak up if they fall short. We all—and our students, especially—deserve better."
