DeGette Statement on Trump Administration’s Firing of CDC Director Susan Monarez
August 28, 2025
DENVER, CO — Today, Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01), Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement after the Trump Administration fired Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Director Susan Monarez hours after she refused to resign under pressure.
“Susan Monarez was CDC director for under a month, and she displayed admirable integrity in her defense of science-backed policies, including vaccine standards. CDC and the nation are worse off without her and the other courageous senior leaders who left CDC yesterday. The wrong people are leaving government. RFK Jr. is a threat to Americans’ public health and he must resign or be fired for the sake of our country.”
