DeGette statement in response to Speaker McCarthy’s call for impeachment inquiry
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement in response to Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s call for an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden:
“Far-right Republicans have been demanding an impeachment inquiry – and, today, Speaker McCarthy gave into those demands in a cheap and dangerous gambit to appease these radical members and avoid a government shutdown. There is no concrete evidence of any wrongdoing by President Biden. Even Congressional Republicans are questioning the merits of this nakedly partisan investigation.
“We’re hurtling toward a potential government shutdown that would impact every American and could do lasting harm to our economy — and House Republicans don’t have the votes to pass their extreme budget proposals. They are flailing in their attempt to govern, and this is nothing more than an attempt to distract from that.
“It’s crystal clear that McCarthy is more concerned with keeping his job as Speaker than doing his job and addressing the needs of the American people.”
