DeGette statement on president’s State of the Union address
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement in response to the president’s State of the Union address:
“Just three months ago, a record number of Americans showed up at the polls to reject the Republican party's extreme agenda. They want to restore Americans' right to reproductive care, enact commonsense gun safety measures to end the scourge of gun violence that's spreading across the country, and take steps now to combat the climate crisis. As the president said this evening, we have made tremendous progress to strengthen our economy over the past two years, and now is the time for us to build upon that progress even more.
“In 2016, I was honored to co-lead the effort to pass the 21st Century Cures Act, which included then-Vice President Biden’s Cancer Moonshot program, and I look forward to continuing to work with him to end cancer as we know it. I also look forward to continuing to work with the White House to further protect the health and safety of the American people by expanding women's access to abortion care, banning the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and breaking our nation's addiction to oil.
“As the top Democrat on the House Energy and Climate subcommittee, I look forward to working with the administration to expand the use of cleaner, renewable forms of energy in this country to lower our emissions and Americans’ overall energy costs.
“And, as co-chair of the House Diabetes Caucus, I couldn’t agree more with the president’s call for Congress to enact legislation that will cap the cost of insulin for all Americans. And I look forward to working with him to advance such legislation as soon as possible to ensure no one in this country, ever again, has to decide between putting food on their table or paying for this medication that keeps them alive.”
