DeGette Statement on President Biden’s Address to the Nation

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tonight, Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) released the following statement after President Biden addressed the nation in light of his decision not to seek a second presidential term.

“Tonight, President Biden reminded Americans what a true statesman he is because he put country over personal ambition. I have no doubt that President Biden will go down in history as one of the most effective presidents, having accomplished more in one term than most presidents have in two.

“I’ve known President Biden for nearly 30 years, and in that time, we’ve worked together to advance stem cell research, invest in cutting edge cancer research by including his Cancer Moonshot in my 21st Century Cures Act, and improve and modernize clean energy production in the United States, among other accomplishments.

“Under President Biden's leadership, we’ve achieved monumental progress that improved the lives of Denverites and all Americans. He rescued us out of the depths of a pandemic and led us into the world’s best recovery. He delivered historic job growth, presided over historic unemployment, capped insulin costs, and fought to ensure that people, not politicians, make their own health care decisions.

“As we look to the future, the mission of preserving our democracy and protecting our freedoms will continue under the leadership of Vice President Harris.

“Joe Biden has given his heart and soul to our country, and for that, we are forever grateful.”
