DeGette statement on passage of bipartisan tax bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement after the U.S. House passed H.R. 7024, the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act:
“This bipartisan tax bill will expand the Child Tax Credit to better support working families, while at the same time enhancing the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and incentivizing businesses across the U.S. to invest in research and development,” said Rep. DeGette. “This is not the bill I would have written. It provides disproportionate tax relief to big corporations. However, I voted for this legislation because the urgent need to help families with children cannot wait, including for families in Denver.”
“I will continue pushing for a fairer tax code – one that prioritizes uplifting families and children.”
If signed into law, the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 would:
- Support working families with an enhanced Child Tax Credit;
- Expand innovation and competitiveness with pro-growth economic policies like R&D expensing;
- Build up Main Street by cutting red tape and rebuild communities struck by disasters with tax relief;
- Enhance the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit; and
- Eliminate fraud and waste by ending the Employee Retention Tax Credit program.
