DeGette statement on passage of another continuing resolution

January 18, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement after the U.S. House passed yet another continuing resolution:

“In their failing attempt to govern, House Republicans have consistently backed themselves into corners and needed House Democrats to bail them out,” said Rep. DeGette. “The Republican majority has now taken us to the brink of a shutdown and then kicked the can down the road not once, not twice, but three times. Each time relying on House Democrats to act responsibly and deliver the votes that their own majority was unwilling to supply.

“Their inability to pass a yearlong funding bill – a basic function of governing this country – has consumed precious time we could have used to find bipartisan, commonsense solutions to the pressing issues we face. Instead, they have created months of uncertainty for federal agencies and the American people, and highlighted the growing dysfunction of this Republican majority.

“This entire saga has illustrated a simple truth: House Republicans aren’t capable of doing the job of governing on their own.”
