DeGette statement on the need for comprehensive national security supplemental
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement after voting No on House Republican’s $17.6 billion standalone Israel aid bill:
“Tonight, House Republicans put a bill on the floor in a political move meant to undermine both the Senate’s bipartisan border agreement and the needs of the Ukrainian people in their fight against Russian aggression,” said Rep. DeGette. “This is not a serious proposal. It is another political stunt meant to distract the American people after Congressional Republicans walked away from a border deal they spent months negotiating.
“We need to support our close ally Israel and provide humanitarian aid to those impacted by the conflict without completely ignoring other critical national security interests – including in Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific.
“I voted no on this bill because the threats facing our nation need a comprehensive strategy – like the one President Biden put forward last fall. That is the proposal I continue to support and one that I would vote for.”
