DeGette statement on Jim Jordan’s candidacy for Speaker

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement as Jim Jordan advances his bid to become Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives:

“It’s a shame that House Republicans are once again shrugging off bipartisanship to embrace extremism – especially given the domestic and international crises we’re facing.”

“Jim Jordan has been described by members of his own party as a ‘legislative terrorist.’ He was a key leader for those in Congress who pushed the Big Lie and sought to overturn a free and fair election. He’s repeatedly embraced conspiracy theories, pushed for radical restrictions on our reproductive rights, and consistently advocated for draconian spending cuts that would harm the American people.”

“There is nothing in the entirety of Jim Jordan’s record that indicates he can put the good of the country over partisan politics. And, if Republicans elevate him to Speaker of the House, I fear he could do lasting harm to this institution and to our nation.”
