DeGette statement on House vote to ‘terminate’ Trump’s emergency declaration
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) issued the following statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives, by a vote of 245 – 182, approved a resolution to ‘terminate' President Trump's national emergency declaration and prevent him from spending $8 billion on a border wall:
"The president abused his power when he declared a fake national emergency to spend billions of dollars on a wall that experts all agree will not work to secure our borders. Today, we used our Constitutional power to terminate that fake emergency, and we hope the Senate acts fast to do the same. Congress needs to send the president a clear message that we will not sit back and allow him to tear up the Constitution or ignore the will of the people and do as he pleases."
