DeGette Releases Statement on Passage of National Security Bills

April 20, 2024

WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) released the following statement after voting to pass a collection of four bills in the House that support our allies, provide essential humanitarian aid to Gaza, give Ukraine the resources it needs to combat Putin’s tyranny, and protect our national security interests.

“Two months ago, the Senate passed a comprehensive national security supplemental on an overwhelming bipartisan basis. Since then, Speaker Johnson did nothing but sit on his hands and waste time. The bills we voted on today, which closely mirror the Senate deal, were long overdue.

“Supporting democracy and freedom should never face delays, and as reports show an increasingly dire situation in Ukraine with the potential loss of significant territory as Russia makes worrying advances, this aid could not wait any longer. At the same time, there are humanitarian needs around the world that must be urgently met. These bills will streamline aid to combat Putin’s aggression while sending important resources to Israel, Gaza, Taiwan, and beyond. I voted for the bills to show that the United States will never back down from our allies and that democracy will triumph over tyranny.”
