DeGette Marks End of Congressional Session
WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the House of Representatives recessed for theholiday season, Energy and Commerce Committee Vice Chair Diana DeGette(D-CO) today released the following comments on the end of theCongressional session:
"As the first session of the 110thCongress comes to a close, we are moving to fulfill our promise of aNew Direction for America.
"The agenda of the new DemocraticCongress reflects the priorities of the American people. We have beenfighting to provide access to quality health care, ensure the safety ofour consumer products and toys, reduce our nation's dependence onforeign oil, and end the President's failed war in Iraq. Despite thestubbornness and political rhetoric of President Bush and hisRepublican colleagues, we will continue to fight alongside the Americanpeople to deliver a robust agenda focused on their priorities.
"While I am proud of the accomplishments of the 110th Congress, Icontinue to be mystified by House and Senate Republicans who have triedto thwart our progress for America. Continuing to play political gameswith the priorities of the American people will only hinder progress –it will not help Americans save at the gas pump, provide criticalhealth care coverage, or make America more secure. From blocking ourefforts to enroll more eligible kids in the children's health insuranceprogram to a fully-paid for Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) patch toending the war in Iraq, Republicans time and again have chosen to sidewith President Bush's upside-down priorities."
