DeGette Commends Obama On Iraq Announcement

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) today commended PresidentObama on his announcement that the U.S. will begin a drawdown of troopsin Iraq and transition the remaining forces from combat to security:

"I commend President Obama on his announcement that he will begin toreduce the number of U.S. troops in Iraq. The Bush Administration'sfailed war policies have put our nation's soldiers and security atrisk. Having opposed the original authorization to go to war with Iraq,I am also pleased that President Obama is transitioning our troops fromcombat to security forces. Iraq and the Iraqi people must beresponsible for their own security and future – and bringing aresponsible end to this irresponsible war is long overdue."
