WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) today issued the following statement on the killing of Ethopian activist Hachalu Hundessa and the subsequent arrest of two suspects allegedly involved:

“The recent killing of Hachalu Hundessa in Ethiopia is a tragedy for his family and the entire Oromo people. I call on the Government of Ethiopia to fully respect the rights of the Oromo people as they express their grief. Now, is not the time to further inflame violence. The government needs to end the country’s internet blackout, bring stability to the ethnic tensions that have dominated Ethiopian politics, and work to end the cycle of violence that so many have suffered from.”
