WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement on President Biden’s first address to a joint session of Congress:

“The president’s message to the American people tonight is precisely the leadership we need at this critical moment. As the president said, now, is the time for us to come together to get our country back on track. With millions of people still out of work, families and businessowners struggling to make ends meet, and a virus that’s continuing to spread, it’s critical that we continue to do everything we can to provide people the help they need.

“I am confident that the president’s plan, as he laid it out tonight, will help move our country in the right direction. And I look forward to continuing to work with him and his administration to enact bold new policies that will not only help end this pandemic, but also cure cancer, fight the climate crisis, make our dreams of protecting 30 percent of our public lands by 2030 a reality, and so much more.

“Five years ago, Rep. Fred Upton and I were honored to include the president’s Cancer Moonshot Program in our 21st Cures Act. Now, we look forward to continuing to work with the White House to end cancer and other difficult diseases once and for all.”
