DeGette celebrates $26 million grant to Denver International Airport
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Department of Transportation announced a $26.6 million grant to Denver International Airport (DEN) for the replacement of its outdated baggage handling system. The investment, made possible through the Airport Terminal Program (ATP), represents a significant milestone in modernizing one of Colorado's most vital transportation hubs. Rep. DeGette – who represents Denver, including the airport, in Congress – released the following statement:
“The new baggage handling system will improve the travel experience at DEN, offering faster processing times, reduced energy consumption, and increased capacity to accommodate the more than 77 million passengers who travel through DEN yearly,” Rep DeGette said. “With these investments, DEN will continue to serve as a cornerstone of our region's economic prosperity and connectivity.”
The ATP was created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden in 2021. As of today’s announcement, over $108 million has been awarded from the ATP to DEN to enhance and replace its baggage system. Previously, DEN was awarded $60 million in its first phase and $22 million in its second.
“As we continue focusing on revitalizing our nation’s infrastructure to meet the demands of the 21st century, I am glad to see DEN is serving as an example of how strategic investments can drive innovation, create jobs, and strengthen our community,” DeGette said.
